Privacy Policy for Nada

In short

Nada stores all health and diary data on your device. There are no user accounts, no server run by the provider, and no transfer of your entries to us or to third parties.

What data the app processes

You enter all of the following yourself, or have it imported from Apple Health or Health Connect if you choose to. It stays in the app's protected storage on your device:

  • Body data: sex (for the formula), age, height, weight, activity level
  • Goal: target weight and desired pace
  • Weight history: the values you enter yourself or import from Health
  • Food diary: foods, amounts, calories, time of day
  • Exercise: energy burned and time, entered by you or imported as a workout from Health (then also its type, e.g. "Running")
  • Your own foods and favourites
  • App lock settings: which apps you have blocked

This information is health data within the meaning of Art. 9 GDPR. That is precisely why it never leaves the device.

Apple Health and Health Connect

Only if you switch it on in the settings and grant access in the system dialog, Nada reads from Apple Health (iPhone) or Health Connect (Android):

  • Workouts: start, type and energy burned over the last 14 days
  • Weight: measurements over the last 14 days

On Android, Health Connect also requires access to distance and steps for this, because they belong to a workout. Nada does not use or store them.

Nada writes nothing to Apple Health or Health Connect. The values it reads are processed only on your device and stored like an entry of your own. They are not transmitted, not sold, not used for advertising and not shared with anyone. Use of data from Health Connect complies with Google's Health Connect Permissions policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

You can switch this off at any time in Nada under Settings → Data. You revoke the access itself in the Health app under the apps in your profile, or in the Health Connect settings. Values that were already imported stay in Nada until you delete them there.

Legal basis

Processing on your device serves the purpose for which you installed the app (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Health data is processed on the basis of your explicit consent, given by entering it (Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR).

Outbound connections

Open Food Facts (world.openfoodfacts.org; de.openfoodfacts.org when the app runs in German, us.openfoodfacts.org on devices set to the United States) — only when you tap "Search online" yourself or scan a barcode. What is transmitted is your search term or the scanned number. No diary entry, no weight and no identifier goes with it. The operator is the Open Food Facts Association, France. Privacy policy: https://world.openfoodfacts.org/privacy

Apple App Store or Google Play — when you start a free trial, buy the permanent unlock, or restore a purchase. The respective store processes the product ID, the purchase status and the data of your store account there. Nada does not transmit any body data, weights or diary entries in the process. There is no additional Nada account.

There are no other connections. The app contains no advertising, no tracking, no analytics libraries and no crash reporting.

Permissions

  • Camera: Reading a barcode on a package. No image is stored or transmitted.
  • Accessibility service (Android): Detecting which app is coming to the foreground in order to block it. The app does not read screen content, does not evaluate input and transmits nothing. The service only compares the package name of the opened app against your own block list.
  • Query installed apps (Android): So that the selection list can show you which apps exist on the device. The list stays on the device.
  • Screen Time / Family Controls (iOS): On iPhone, Apple's own Screen Time does the blocking. The app never learns in plain text which apps you picked — iOS only hands out anonymous tokens, and those do not leave the device.
  • Apple Health / Health Connect (read): Importing workouts and weight, see above. Read only, never write.
  • Notifications (iOS): A heads-up shortly before the lock kicks in, and one that takes you to Nada after you tap the button on the lock screen. They are created on the device; nothing is transmitted.

All of them are optional. Without the camera the scanner does not work, without the accessibility service or Screen Time the lock does not work, without Health you enter exercise and weight yourself — the tracker runs either way.

Backups

File backup: When you save a backup, a JSON file is created in the location you choose. What happens to it afterwards — cloud folder, USB stick, email — is entirely up to you. The file contains your diary, your body data and your plan — including weight and workouts you imported from Apple Health or Health Connect.

Device backup: If you have your device's backup switched on, the operating system backs the app data up to your account in encrypted form — on Android to Google Drive, on iOS to iCloud. That is a function of the operating system, not of this app; Google and Apple are responsible for it. You can switch it off in your device settings under "Backup" or "iCloud".

Deleting

Android: Settings → Apps → Nada → Storage → Clear data. iOS: Delete the app (press and hold → "Remove App").

That removes all entries irreversibly. Uninstalling does the same. Backup files you saved yourself are yours to delete.

A permanent unlock bought through Apple or Google stays with that store account and can be restored after a reinstall. Purchase receipts are handled under the rules of the respective store.

Your rights

You have the rights under Art. 15 to 21 GDPR (access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability, objection) as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

In practice most of them come to nothing, because we hold nothing about you: only your device can give you access to your data, and the backup file already satisfies data portability — it is readable JSON.

Children

The app is not aimed at children. Under the age of 18 it does not calculate a weight-loss target; tracking remains possible.

Not medical advice

All figures are estimates from standard formulas. They are no substitute for medical or dietary advice. If you have a pre-existing condition, are pregnant, or have an eating disorder, decisions about calorie targets belong in professional hands.

Changes

If the data processing changes, this text changes. The date at the top says when it was last touched.
